Shashi Mehrotra, CFA
Executive Vice President & Chief Investment Officer
Shashi Mehrotra is the Chief Investment
Officer of Legend Advisory Corporation where he oversees over
$1.44 billion in assets (as of 6/30/10), and he is a pioneer in
the application of artificial intelligence to the field of
investment management.
Shashi is the chief architect of AANN, standing for Asset Allocation Neural Network, a thinking and "learning" computer model which uses artificial intelligence to implement a global asset allocation strategy -- believed to be a first in the analysis of world financial markets.
Mr. Mehrotra brings to Legend an extensive background in economics, statistics, engineering, mathematics and investment banking. Mr. Mehrotra spent over a decade on the research, development, testing and implementation of AANN, overseeing the spending of more than $10 million in capital to create AANN's state-of-the-art operating system.
To develop AANN, Mr. Mehrotra fine-tuned an enormous collection of data ranging from a wide variety of financial market indices and data acquisition, to regression analysis, algorithms and other advanced mathematical interpolations, to pattern recognition among the many deciding factors that went into AANN's "brain". He continues to oversee AANN's neural network and learning behavior as it works to predict movements in world financial markets. He also performs periodic re-engineering of AANN in anticipation of global and technological developments.
Before joining The Legend Group in 1995, Mr. Mehrotra was an engineer and data specialist on a joint project between Florida Atlantic University (FAU) and the U.S. Navy for two years. The project involved transmitting high frequency waves to undersea objects and determining the composition of those objects based on the acoustic intensity of the reflected waves. The research was intended for uses ranging from oil exploration to undersea intelligence and submarine maneuvers. During that time, he also acted as a consultant to the business community.
For over a decade until recently, Mr. Mehrotra was also an Adjunct Professor at FAU. In that, and previous positions, he taught classes on economics, statistics, business calculus, quantitative business, managerial accounting, investment banking, mechanical engineering and sonar labs. Previously, he worked as an engineer in signaling and telecommunications for Everest Electronics, a prime contractor to one of India's largest railroad companies near Bombay, India.
Mr. Mehrotra received a Master of Business Administration from Florida Atlantic University in 1994. He received a Bachelor of Engineering degree from the University of Osmania, Hyderabad, India in 1989. Mr. Mehrotra is a Chartered Financial Analyst. He is a member of the CFA Institute and the South Florida Financial Analyst Society.
